11 耶穌又說:「一個人有兩個兒子。
11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons.
12 小兒子對父親說:『父親,請你把我應得的家業分給我。』他父親就把產業分給他們。
12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
13 過了不多幾日,小兒子就收拾一切,往遠方去了;在那裡任意放蕩,浪費資財。
13 Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
14 既耗盡了一切,又遇著那地方大遭饑荒,就窮苦起來。
14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.
15 於是去投靠那地方的一個人;那人打發他到田裡去放豬。
15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.
16 他恨不得拿豬所吃的豆莢充飢,也沒有人給他。
16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17 他醒悟過來,就說:『我父親有多少的雇工,口糧有餘,我倒在這裡餓死嗎?
17 When he came to his senses, he said, ’How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
18 我要起來,到我父親那裡去,向他說:父親!我得罪了天,又得罪了你;
18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
19 從今以後,我不配稱為你的兒子,把我當作一個雇工吧!』
19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’
20 於是起來,往他父親那裡去。相離還遠,他父親看見,就動了慈心,跑去抱著他的頸項,連連與他親嘴。
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 兒子說:『父親!我得罪了天,又得罪了你,從今以後,我不配稱為你的兒子。』
21 The son said to him, ’Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 父親卻吩咐僕人說:『把那上好的袍子快拿出來給他穿;把戒指戴在他指頭上;把鞋穿在他腳上;
22 But the father said to his servants, ’Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
23 把那肥牛犢牽來宰了,我們可以吃喝快樂;
23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.
24 因為我這個兒子是死而復活,失而又得的。』他們就快樂起來。
24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
25 那時,大兒子正在田裡。他回來,離家不遠,聽見作樂跳舞的聲音,
25 Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 便叫一個僕人來,問是什麼事。
26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.
27 僕人說:『你兄弟來了,你父親因為他無災無病地回來,把肥牛犢宰了。』
27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ’and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28 大兒子卻生氣,不肯進去;他父親就出來勸他。
28 The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.
29 他對父親說:『我服事你這多年,從來沒有違背過你的命,你並沒有給我一隻山羊羔,叫我和朋友一同快樂。
29 But he answered his father, ’Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.
30 但你這個兒子和娼妓吞盡了你的產業,他一來了,你倒為他宰了肥牛犢。』
30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31 父親對他說:『兒啊!你常和我同在,我一切所有的都是你的。
31 ’My son,’ the father said, ’you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.
32 只是你這個兄弟是死而復活,失而又得的,所以我們理當歡喜快樂。』」
32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

留意左側跪著的小兒子,他衣衫襤褸,頭髮凌亂,鞋子破舊,甚至一隻已經掉落。他的身體微微前傾,頭靠在父親的胸前,姿態帶著無助與完全的投降。這是一個徹底破碎、悔改的形象。
Notice the younger son kneeling on the left. His clothes are tattered, his hair is messy, and his shoes are worn out, with one even falling off. His body leans slightly forward, his head resting on the father’s chest, portraying helplessness and total surrender. It is a depiction of complete brokenness and repentance.

Observe his hands closely—one is rough and strong, as if shaped by labor, while the other is delicate and gentle, conveying tenderness. These hands symbolize the Father’s acceptance, marked by both authority and compassion. His red robe drapes over the son’s tattered clothes, representing the pouring of his noble love onto the younger son.

3. The Older Son’s Indifference and Isolation
畫作右側的大兒子站在陰影中,直挺挺地站立著,雙手交疊,臉上帶著冷漠與審視。他的身影與父親和小兒子的擁抱形成強烈對比。雖然身披象徵榮耀的紅袍,手持家族的權杖,但他的眼神卻透露出疏離、嫉妒與不滿。他與父親之間似乎隔著一道無形的牆,無法進入愛的場景。
On the right side of the painting, the older son stands in the shadows, rigid and upright, arms crossed, with a face marked by indifference and scrutiny. His figure contrasts sharply with the father and younger son’s embrace. Despite wearing a red robe symbolizing honor and holding the family’s staff of authority, his gaze reveals detachment, jealousy, and resentment. An invisible wall seems to separate him from the father, keeping him outside the realm of love.

四、林布蘭的故事 | The Story of Rembrandt
林布蘭·梵·雷因(Rembrandt van Rijn),1606年出生於荷蘭,是荷蘭黃金時代最偉大的畫家之一。
Rembrandt van Rijn, born in 1606 in the Netherlands, is one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age.
他的早年生活充滿激情與希望,才華橫溢的他迅速成名,成為當時最受矚目的藝術家。他結婚、生子,擁有成功的事業,弟子無數,作品被爭相收藏。然而,命運並未讓他的輝煌持續下去。
His early life was full of passion and promise. Gifted with extraordinary talent, he quickly rose to fame and became one of the most sought-after artists of his time. He married, had children, and enjoyed a flourishing career with numerous disciples and highly coveted works. However, his glory was not to last.
隨著荷蘭社會對藝術品味的轉變,林布蘭的畫風逐漸失去市場,他的財務狀況惡化,最終宣告破產。
As Dutch society’s artistic tastes shifted, Rembrandt’s style gradually fell out of favor. His financial situation deteriorated, and he eventually declared bankruptcy.
他的婚姻和家庭也遭遇重創:妻子與幾名子女相繼去世,晚年的林布蘭生活淒涼,僅存的兒子提圖斯也早他而去。
His personal life also suffered devastating losses: his wife and several of his children passed away, and in his later years, his only surviving son, Titus, also predeceased him.

五、思想 | Reflections
透過畫作、經文的對比,以及林布蘭的故事,我們或許可以看見三個不同的生命狀態:
Through the painting, the scripture, and Rembrandt’s story, we can discern three distinct states of life:
1. 小兒子 | The Younger Son
• 願意承認自己的錯誤,選擇回轉,卻以為只能成為父親的僕人。
Willing to admit his mistakes and turn back, but he believes he can only return as a servant.
• 天父的愛遠超他所能想像,直接恢復他兒子的身份。
The Father’s love exceeds his imagination, restoring him directly to his position as a son.
2. 大兒子 | The Older Son
• 外表順服,內心卻被比較與嫉妒綑綁。
Outwardly obedient, but inwardly bound by comparison and jealousy.
• 他的迷失不在於離家,而在於無法與父親的愛對齊。
His lostness lies not in leaving home but in failing to align himself with the Father’s love.
3. 父親 | The Father
• 全然傾倒的愛,無條件接納兩個迷失的兒子,盼望他們都能回家參與筵席。
A love fully poured out, unconditionally accepting both lost sons, longing for them to join the feast.
